The competition "student housing for the ETH Science City" was challenging participants to design a habitat for the international young researchers. Our project is situated at the edge of the Science City and thus forming a visual link between the city and the campus at Hönggerberg. With its iconic design it represents the ETH's ambition in the global competition of science cities

Derived from a standard perimeter block a sculptural volume is shaped by rotating and folding, resulting in an hybrid that continues the urban texture but also marks the entrance to the campus.

With its sculptural appearance and its height, Hochstapler has the potential to develop a strong new identity for the ETH.

Hochstapler offers a fantastic panoramic view of the entire city of Zurich and its lake. A garden in the courtyard forms the center for activities in summer. Common spaces and rooms are oriented towards this space

Hochstapler is literally a stack of wood. With its 10 storeys it is technically a highrise building and thus a prototyp for new innovative prefab wood strucutres that show the potential of this material
